The Kanamara Matsuri, also known as the “Penis Festival,” is held in Kawasaki City, Japan, every spring. The Shinto festival is meant to honor the deity of fertility, and participants parade around carrying giant phallic-shaped sculptures. This tradition teaches us that sexuality is a natural part of life and should not be ashamed or stigmatized.
4. Thaipusam- India and Malaysia.
Thaipusam is a Hindu festival celebrated in India, Malaysia, and other parts of Southeast Asia. Devotees pierce their skin with hooks and skewers, carry heavy objects on their shoulders, and participate in a procession as a way of showing their devotion to Lord Murugan.
