The universe is vast and contains everything we know of, from galaxies to nebulae, to stars to planets, and everything else that exists in between. Nevertheless, what we see from earth is only a tiny glimpse of the whole thing. Contrary to popular belief, there is an infinite number of galaxies in the universe, all with billions of stars, and most of them are beyond our visible horizons. This means that, while we have studied the galaxies, we’ve only seen a fraction of what’s out there.

One of the most important things science has revealed about the universe is that everything in it is connected. This implies that the universe operates through complex systems of cause and effect, which are known as feedback loops. Interestingly, these loops are not linear. Instead, they are ‘auspiciously’ interconnected, meaning that each feedback loop influences and is influenced by several others. This complexity makes it difficult to predict the outcome of unrelated events, which is why, despite all our knowledge, we can’t completely unravel the mysteries of the universe.

Another fascinating insight is the concept of dark matter. In our current understanding, dark matter makes up around 25% of the universe, while the rest is composed of normal matter. This is an extraordinary thought given that our universe appears to be predominantly made up of nothingness! Further, the universe operates through a series of delicate balances that hold everything together. The slightest disruption in these balances could potentially result in catastrophic consequences. For example, the gravitational force holds stars together and governs the universe’s evolution. Any changes in gravitational forces could lead to a chain reaction resulting in the universe’s complete collapse.

In conclusion, the mysteries of the universe are endless, and every day we uncover new insights and information. While there’s much we still don’t understand, the complexity and beauty of the cosmos continue to inspire us. As we continue our quest to unravel the mysteries of the universe, we must remain humble, curious, and open to new ideas, because that’s how we’ll discover the next ‘big thing’.
