As an obese person, I have struggled for years with my weight and the social stigmas that often come with it. I have been told that I’m lazy, unhealthy, and lack self-control. But the reality is much more complex than that.

Perhaps even more significant than the physical impacts are the emotional ones. Being obese can lead to feelings of shame, inferiority, and isolation.
