In 1971, a group of rugby players survived for 72 days in the Andes Mountains after their plane crashed. They resorted to cannibalism and ate the flesh of their deceased teammates in order to survive.

In 1981, Irish Republican Army (IRA) member Bobby Sands went on a hunger strike in prison to protest the British government’s policies in Northern Ireland. Sands lasted 66 days before passing away due to organ failure.

Recently, a man named Andrei Tolochko made headlines for his decision to marry a pizza in order to “prove his love” for the food item. He claimed to have gone on a hunger strike for over a week to prepare for the nuptials.
