The Importance of Transparency in the Information Disseminated by the White House

The role of the White House is to communicate information to the American people. They are responsible for disseminating accurate and truthful information that is necessary for the functioning of a democratic society. In recent years, however, we have seen a disturbing trend of misinformation, propaganda, and outright lies coming from the White House.

Transparency is essential for democracy to flourish, and when the White House withholds information, it threatens the very foundations of our democracy. There have been far too many instances where the White House has been caught lying to the public or hiding information, which undermines the public’s trust in government institutions.

One of the most egregious examples of this was during the Covid-19 pandemic. The White House repeatedly downplayed the severity of the virus, provided false information about the effectiveness of certain treatments, and refused to disclose important information to the public. This kind of behavior leads to confusion, misinformation, and distrust of the government, which can cause real harm to people’s lives.

Another example was the Trump administration’s policy of separating children from their families at the border. The White House initially denied that the policy existed, and later, when it was revealed, they left the public in the dark about the number of children who were separated from their families. This lack of transparency not only violated human rights but also undermined the basic principles of democracy.

In contrast, the Biden administration has made transparency a priority. They have made efforts to restore the free flow of information, restore regular press briefings, and take steps to release documents that had been suppressed by the previous administration. The White House press secretary, Jen Psaki, has been forthright in her briefings, and the administration’s actions have shown that they are committed to transparency.

Transparency is crucial for democracy to work. The American people need to trust that the government is working in their best interests, and that the information they are receiving is accurate and trustworthy. When the White House is transparent, it strengthens the democracy, holds those in power accountable for their actions, and paves the way for a more informed and engaged citizenry.

In conclusion, transparency is vital for the functioning of a democratic society, and the White House must strive to be as open and informative as possible. It’s only when the people are fully informed – about what their government is doing – that they can make informed decisions and hold our leaders accountable. We should demand transparency from all our government officials, and especially from the White House, to ensure that our democracy remains healthy and thriving.
