In the microprocessor era, computers became affordable and accessible to most people, no longer needing to be exclusively relegated to government institutions, universities, or large corporations. This period saw the birth of personal computers, such as the Apple II and Commodore PET.

The Internet and Beyond

The invention of the internet was another significant milestone in computing history. The first message sent over the internet was in 1969 between two computers in different locations. However, it wasn’t until the mid-1990s that the internet became widely accessible to the general public.

From there, it was just a matter of time before smartphones appeared, from which we access the internet today. The need for data storage grew exponentially and became more feasible with cloud computing. Artificial intelligence and machine learning are another significant advancement that shows no signs of slowing down.
