Beauty is subjective. It is a fact that has been touted by many for a long time now. However, with the proliferation of beauty standards, it seems that we are slowly losing sight of this fact. We have created beauty standards that are both rigid and unattainable, resulting in a skewed perception of beauty.

Subjective beauty standards are personal preferences that vary from person to person. For some, a person with broad shoulders and a chiseled jawline is considered attractive while for others, it is a person with a round face and a petite frame. It is a matter of personal taste and is often influenced by cultural, social and familial factors. Subjective beauty standards, therefore, cannot be used to measure one’s worth or attractiveness as it is personal and subjective.

On the other hand, objectivity refers to the standards that are considered universal. These are the standards that are determined based on biology and science. For example, the waist-to-hip ratio is an objective measurement that is considered attractive across cultures and races. It is an objective standard because it is based on science and it can be used to measure attractiveness.

The problem arises when we start to mix subjective and objective beauty standards. When we do this, we create a beauty standard that is both rigid and unattainable. We create a beauty standard that does not take into account the diversity of human beings and their personal preferences. It is like trying to fit a square peg into a round hole. It is simply not going to work.

In conclusion, it is important to keep in mind that beauty is subjective and personal. We should embrace diversity and personal preferences and not allow ourselves to be defined by rigid beauty standards. We should strive to create beauty standards that are inclusive and that recognize the diversity of human beings. By doing this, we create a world where everyone is beautiful in their own way.
