The long-standing pressure to balance work and personal life is an issue that affects professionals of all ages and has become an increasingly important issue of discussion amongst organizations. Recent research carried out by job services platform, Employers Solutions, found that a majority of young professionals now value work-life balance in their careers.
In recent years, finding an elusive work-life balance has become more and more important for the new generation of workers. With technological advancements intertwining personal and professional life, employers are embracing and introducing new approaches to find the perfect balance.
Employers Solutions’ survey revealed that the majority of respondents both male and female in their late twenties and early thirties valued work-life balance over other workplace benefits such as health insurance or regular salary reviews. Young workers are increasingly placing more emphasis on flexible hours and remote work options, in an effort to find the perfect balance.
This shift can be attributed to the aging population and workforce, as well as the shift towards remote and flexible work environments. According to the survey, 75% of young professionals would consider pursuing other job opportunities if their current employer doesn’t promote a good work-life balance. This highlights the importance for employers to adapt and foster a work culture that suits the needs of their young workers.
Moreover, the report also indicated that professionals experienced increased productivity when achieving work-life balance, with 68% of participants saying they are more productive when they have time to unwind and relax outside of work hours. Balancing work-life reduces stress levels, which translates to better work-life performance.
Studies show that organizations that promote overt acknowledgement of work-life balance within the organization culture have higher job satisfaction rates and lower turnover. Setting the tone at the top for prioritizing work-life balance will increase job satisfaction, increase employee loyalty and reduce absenteeism.
In conclusion, young professionals value work-life balance more than other traditional workplace benefits, and organizations should be aware of this need when crafting their company culture. Organizations should ensure that the workloads their employees handle are manageable and offer flexible work schedules with remote work options. Whether it’s through company perks or a cultural shift to recognize work-life balance, it should be clearly identified, promoted and followed through from the top of the hierarchy for a successful implementation.
