My Solo Travel Experience in Jordan: A Journey of a Lifetime
Have you ever traveled solo? If you haven’t, then Jordan, a small country located in the Middle East, might be the perfect place to start. It’s a country that is rich in history, culture, and hospitality, and it’s safe for solo travelers too. I recently had the opportunity to travel to Jordan and it was truly a journey of a lifetime.
The Adventure Begins
I started my journey in Amman, the capital city of Jordan. The city itself is a mix of modern and ancient architecture, with plenty of things to see and do. As an avid foodie, my first stop was the famous Hashem Restaurant, which is known for its delicious falafel and hummus.
From there, I explored the ancient ruins of the Roman Amphitheatre, which is still used for cultural events today. For a panoramic view of the city, I went to the Citadel, a hilltop fortress that offers an amazing view of Amman.
The Wonders of Petra
Next on my list was Petra, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. It’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site that is well known for its rock-cut architecture and impressive formations. I spent two days exploring Petra, and it was worth every moment.
One of my favorite experiences was hiking up to The Monastery, which is a magnificent structure that offers breathtaking views of the city. I also explored the Siq, a narrow gorge that leads to the iconic Treasury, and the Royal Tombs, which are intricately carved into the rock.
The Beauty of Wadi Rum
From Petra, I went to Wadi Rum, which is a protected desert wilderness that is famous for its stunning red sandstone formations and lunar-like landscapes. It’s also the place where the movie ‘The Martian’ was filmed.
I spent two days in Wadi Rum exploring the desert on a jeep safari, hiking to the top of a sand dune to watch the sunrise, and sleeping under the stars in a Bedouin camp.
The Hospitality of Jordanians
One of the most memorable parts of my journey was the hospitality of the Jordanian people. Everywhere I went, I was met with warmth and kindness. From the shopkeepers in the souk to the Bedouin hosts in the desert, everyone was eager to share their culture and stories with me.
Key Takeaways
In summary, Jordan is a fantastic destination for solo travelers who are looking for adventure, rich history, and cultural experiences. From the bustling city of Amman to the ancient ruins of Petra and the stunning desert landscapes of Wadi Rum, Jordan has something for everyone.
If you’re planning a solo trip to Jordan, be sure to explore the country’s diverse and rich culture, try the local cuisine, and connect with the friendly locals. You won’t be disappointed, and it will truly be a journey of a lifetime.
