In today’s world, more emphasis is being placed on personal wellness. There is an increasing demand for individuals to take responsibility for their overall health, embracing both physical and mental wellness. As a result, many people have embarked on personal wellness journeys to achieve balance and overcome various obstacles. My personal wellness journey has been one of the most significant and transformative experiences of my life thus far.
Like every other person, I experienced various hindrances along the way that threatened to derail my progress. However, my desire and commitment to achieve balance and wellness kept me going. Here are several obstacles that I encountered and the strategies I used to overcome them:
1. Time Management
One of the most significant obstacles that people face on their wellness journeys is time management. With a plethora of daily responsibilities, finding time to commit to a wellness plan may seem overwhelming. To overcome this challenge, I diligently scheduled my daily activities and sought out spaces within my day where I could insert wellness-enhancing activities. Activities like at-home workouts, meditation and healthy meal choices became non-negotiables, done at pre-scheduled times.
2. Lack of Motivation
Another obstacle is a lack of motivation. There are days where you don’t feel like sticking to your routine and may feel discouraged. To overcome this feeling, I made small, more doable goals that allowed me to feel good about the progress I was making. On days where I feel unmotivated to exercise, I went for a quick walk instead, made healthier food choices, or focused on one simple wellness routine.
3. Setbacks
During my wellness journey, I experienced setbacks. Whether it was my lapse in diet or exercise habit, I discovered that setbacks can be discouraging. To overcome this challenge, I adopted a more forgiving attitude and took each day as an opportunity to do better and learn from my mistakes.
However, obstacles aren’t the only notable events on a wellness journey. There are also significant milestones, and moments of self-discovery, and learning to enjoy working out, trying new healthy forms of food and learning the value of healthy relationships!
On my journey, I discovered the immense benefits of maintaining balance between physical and mental wellness. This balance allowed me to confront challenges with more energy and focus, better connection in my relationships and more positive thinking. With a more significant sense of inner peace, I found I was better equipped to tackle whatever uncertainties life threw my way.
My wellness journey has been life-changing, and it is my hope that sharing my experiences can inspire and motivate others to embark on their own. Remember, wellness is an ongoing journey, and each day presents an opportunity to do better than the last.
