My Personal Results Using Android Auto: An Honest Review

If you’re a modern consumer, chances are you’ve been hearing about Android Auto and similar infotainment systems that bring the power of your smartphone to your car’s dashboard. As an inquisitive and tech-savvy driver, I decided to put Android Auto to the test myself and see how it performed. In this article, I’m sharing my personal results and experience using Android Auto over the past few months.

What is Android Auto?

First things first, let’s briefly discuss what Android Auto is and how it works. Android Auto is a mobile app that runs on your smartphone and connects to your car’s infotainment system via USB cable or Bluetooth. It allows you to access several of your phone’s features, including Google Maps, music apps, messaging apps, and phone calls, without taking your hands off the wheel and eyes off the road. Android Auto comes pre-installed on many cars, but for those that don’t, it can be downloaded for free from the Google Play Store.

My Setup

To use Android Auto, I downloaded the app on my Google Pixel 4XL smartphone. My car, a 2019 Honda Civic, came with Android Auto pre-installed, so all I needed to do was connect my phone to my car’s USB port. I’ve been using it for about 4 months, mainly for listening to music, making hands-free phone calls, and getting real-time navigation using Google Maps.

Pros and Cons of Android Auto

Overall, I found Android Auto to be a useful app that makes driving safer and more enjoyable. However, there were some positives and negatives that I encountered along the way.

Pros

  • Easy and intuitive to use: Android Auto was simple to set up and use right out of the box. The interface is straightforward and easy to navigate, and it provides big buttons and a clear layout that’s easy to see while driving.
  • Safety First: One of the best things about Android Auto is that it makes it easier to focus on driving while using your smartphone’s features. Voice commands and hands-free controls prevent distractions, and the ability to see texts and notifications on your dashboard means you don’t need to glance at your phone while driving.
  • Integration with Google Apps: I’m a fan of Google’s ecosystem, so having easy access to Google Maps, Google Play Music, and Google Assistant was a big plus for me. Google Maps was particularly impressive, providing real-time traffic updates and accurate directions based on traffic conditions.

Cons

  • Limited App Support: While Android Auto supports many popular music and messaging apps, it doesn’t support them all. Some apps like Amazon Music or Facebook Messenger are not compatible with Android Auto.
  • Occasional Technical Issues: During my time using Android Auto, I experienced a few unexpected app crashes and occasional connection issues, but this is not a significant issue that cannot be resolved.

Conclusion

In conclusion, I would say that Android Auto is an excellent infotainment system for people who are fans of Google services and looking for an easy and safe way to access their phone’s features while driving. However, it is worth noting that some app compatibility issues can be an inconvenience, and some users may experience occasional technical problems while using it. Despite that, I would strongly recommend Android Auto to anyone looking to upgrade their driving experience.
