As a leader, my journey has been a culmination of experiences that have shaped my leadership style and philosophy. In this article, I’ll be sharing my personal leadership philosophy and giving examples of how this philosophy has impacted my leadership journey.

Taking Responsibility
At the core of my personal leadership philosophy is taking full responsibility for the outcomes of my team. As a leader, I believe that I am responsible for creating an environment where everyone can operate at their full potential and deliver excellent results. This philosophy extends beyond the success of my team and to the development of individuals. I believe that it is my job as a leader to help each team member achieve their personal goals.

Empathy
Empathy is a core element of my leadership philosophy, especially when handling team members. I make an effort to understand the unique perspective of each of my team members, and I do my best to work with them in a way that aligns with their motives and goals. I believe that this approach has enabled my team members to be more comfortable and productive as they work towards their goals.

Learning and Development
Lastly, I believe that leaders need to be willing to constantly learn and develop themselves. Leaders who stop seeking knowledge and growth bring stagnation to both themselves and their teams. As such, I make it a point to read and absorb information that would be beneficial to my professional and personal development. Additionally, I encourage my team members to take advantage of any educational opportunities available to them to enable them to grow and step up in their roles.

Examples from My Journey
I had an experience where my team had set some KPIs that seemed impossible to meet. Instead of forcing my team to achieve these standards, I worked with them to understand what the issue was, and how we could work together to overcome it. After identifying the issue, I created an environment that allowed the team to communicate openly and encouraged them to share ideas on how to accomplish our goals. This approach led to the team surpassing the expectations for that particular project.

In conclusion, my leadership philosophy rests on taking responsibility, empathy, and learning and development. These elements have guided me through my leadership journey, and I believe they are integral to effective leadership. By creating an environment of trust, empathy, and growth, leaders can cultivate high-performing teams that can achieve incredible results.
