My Personal Definition of Wellness and How It Has Changed Over Time

Wellness is a hot topic these days, with many people seeking ways to strike a balance between their work and personal life. My personal definition of wellness has evolved over time, as I’ve come to realize that it’s not just about physical health, but also mental health, emotional health, and social wellbeing. In this article, I’ll explore how my definition of wellness has changed over time, and how it’s influenced my lifestyle choices.

The Physical Component

When I first started focusing on wellness, my primary concern was my physical wellbeing. I exercised regularly and paid attention to my diet, making sure I ate plenty of fruits and vegetables while limiting my intake of processed foods and added sugars. However, I came to realize that wellness is more than just physical health. Even though I was in good shape, I still felt stressed and overwhelmed at times. That’s when I started paying attention to the other aspects of wellness.

The Mental Component

As I started to explore the mental component of wellness, I realized that it was just as important as the physical component. I started to practice mindfulness meditation, which helped me to be more present and focus on the present moment. This, in turn, helped me to reduce my stress levels and improve my overall mental wellbeing. I also started seeing a therapist, who helped me to work through some of the emotional issues I was dealing with.

The Emotional Component

The emotional component of wellness was one that I had never really thought about before. However, as I started to pay more attention to my feelings, I realized that it was just as important as the other components. I started to practice self-care, which involved doing things I enjoyed and spending time with people who made me feel good. This helped me to improve my emotional wellbeing and feel more fulfilled in my life.

The Social Component

The social component of wellness was something that I had always been aware of, but never really prioritized. I started to spend more time with my friends and family, and I also joined a few social clubs and organizations. This helped me to feel more connected to others and improve my overall social wellbeing.

Conclusion

My personal definition of wellness has changed over time, as I’ve come to realize that it’s not just about physical health, but also mental health, emotional health, and social wellbeing. By paying attention to all of these components, I’ve been able to live a more fulfilling and balanced life. I encourage others to explore their own definition of wellness and find ways to prioritize all of these components in their own lives.
