My Fitness Journey: How I Found Motivation and Overcame Obstacles
I was never one to prioritize fitness in my life. I used to come up with excuses to avoid working out or eating healthily. But as time passed, I realized that my health should be the most important thing in my life. Thus, I embarked on a journey to improve my fitness. And what a journey it has been!
The Motivation to Start
It all started when I realized that my unhealthy lifestyle had to change. I was sluggish, unhappy, and had low self-esteem. My doctor’s warning that my health was declining fast was the wakeup call I needed. I decided then and there that I wanted to feel great about myself, both inside and out. I realized that I had to start prioritizing my fitness to feel healthy and happy again.
Overcoming the Obstacles
Starting a fitness journey isn’t easy; you will face multiple obstacles. Some days, I didn’t feel like working out or sticking to my diet. But I found ways to push through these obstacles. For instance, I reminded myself why I had started in the first place, and how far I had come. I also found creative exercises like dance and yoga to make my workout sessions more fun and enjoyable.
Another significant obstacle for me was time. During busy weeks, it’s easy to convince yourself that you don’t have the time to work out or prepare healthy meals. However, I found ways to squeeze in a quick workout in the morning or substitute fast food with healthy homemade meals.
Setting Realistic Goals
As I worked on my fitness, I learned that setting achievable goals is crucial. Initially, I set unrealistic goals that made me feel like quitting as I struggled to achieve them. Therefore, I adjusted my goals and focused on accomplishments that felt sustainable. Celebrating even small achievements gave me the motivation to keep going.
The Importance of Accountability
I also realized that accountability was necessary. I would share my journey with a fitness coach, my partner, or a friend. By so doing, I had someone who cheered me on and held me accountable. In addition, tracking my progress, either through a fitness app or journal, helped me celebrate small successes and identify areas that needed improvement.
The Results of My Fitness Journey
As I write this, I am proud of the progress I have made. I feel healthier and happier than I have in years. My confidence has skyrocketed, and I sleep better than ever. However, it’s essential to remember that everyone’s fitness journey is different. Therefore, I encourage you to focus on your journey, celebrate every achievement, and never stop pushing yourself towards your goals.
The Takeaway
From my fitness journey, I learned that motivation, overcoming obstacles, setting goals, and accountability are the keys to success. Remember, fitness is not a destination; it’s a journey that requires persistence and commitment. Start small, celebrate every milestone, and never give up on BETTER you.
