If you find yourself with a long layover in Taipei, don’t waste it sitting in the airport. With 24 hours in the city, there’s plenty to see and do. Here’s how to make the most of your layover in Taipei.

First up, make your way to the famous Taipei 101 skyscraper. Once the tallest building in the world, Taipei 101 is still an impressive sight. Ride the high-speed elevator up to the top for incredible views of the city. If you’re feeling brave, take a walk on the outdoor observation deck on the 91st floor.

Next, head to the historic district of Dadaocheng. This area is full of charming old buildings, traditional shops, and centuries-old temples. Be sure to stop by the Lin Liu-Hsin Puppet Theatre Museum, where you can learn about the art of puppetry and watch a puppet show.

For lunch, grab a bite at one of Taipei’s many night markets. Shilin Night Market is a popular choice, but there are plenty of others to choose from. Try some stinky tofu, fried chicken, or bubble tea—Taipei’s night markets are famous for their street food.

In the afternoon, visit the National Palace Museum. This museum is home to an incredible collection of Chinese artifacts, including ancient pottery, jade carvings, and imperial robes. It’s one of the best museums in Asia, so it’s definitely worth a visit.

For dinner, head to the trendy Xinyi District. This area is known for its upscale shopping and dining options, and there are plenty of restaurants to choose from. Try some Taiwanese-style sushi at Addiction Aquatic Development, or feast on local delicacies at the Michelin-starred RAW.

Finally, end your day with a visit to Taipei’s iconic Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall. This grand monument is dedicated to the founder of modern Taiwan, and it’s a must-see for history buffs. Check out the hourly changing of the guard ceremony for a true spectacle.

With just 24 hours, you can get a great taste of Taipei’s culture, history, and cuisine. Make the most of your layover and explore this vibrant city.
