How to Gain Wisdom: Embracing the Fear of the Lord (KJV)

Wisdom is a highly valued commodity in life. It is the ability to apply knowledge, experience, and good judgment to make sound decisions. Many people seek wisdom to guide them through life, but they often overlook the source of true wisdom: the fear of the Lord.

According to the King James Version of the Bible, Proverbs 9:10 says, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.” This verse suggests that the fear of the Lord is the foundation for gaining wisdom.

But what does it mean to fear the Lord? In today’s society, the word “fear” can imply terror, but in a biblical context, it means to honor, revere, and respect God. When we fear the Lord, we acknowledge His sovereignty, power, and authority over our lives.

Embracing the fear of the Lord opens the door to true wisdom. Here are some ways to do so:

1. Study the Word of God: The Bible is the ultimate source of wisdom, and it contains numerous examples of how to fear the Lord. Through studying the Word of God, we can gain insights into His character, His ways, and His purposes.

2. Cultivate a Reverential Attitude: We can cultivate a reverential attitude by acknowledging God’s greatness and humbling ourselves before Him. Recognizing that God is the creator and sustainer of all things leads us to respect Him and fear Him.

3. Seek His Will: When we fear the Lord, we desire to do His will and obey His commands. We submit our plans, our desires, and our lives to Him, trusting that He knows what is best.

4. Pray for Wisdom: James 1:5 says, “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.” We should ask God for wisdom, trusting that He will grant it.

5. Walk with Wise People: Proverbs 13:20 states, “He who walks with wise men will be wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm.” Walking with wise people can help us grow in wisdom as we hear their insights and learn from their experiences.

In conclusion, gaining wisdom starts with embracing the fear of the Lord. As we cultivate a reverential attitude towards God, seek His will, and study His Word, we begin to understand His ways and gain insights to make wise decisions. Let us strive to fear the Lord and gain true wisdom.
