As a frequent online shopper, I rely heavily on customer reviews to inform my purchases. Over the years, I’ve left 84 reviews on various products and websites, and looking back, I’ve realized just how much those reviews have helped me make better purchasing decisions.

First and foremost, reviews from other customers provide a sense of authenticity and transparency that can be difficult to find elsewhere. Sure, a product description might sound great on the website, but hearing from someone who has actually used the product gives me a much better idea of what to expect. I’ve found that reviews often highlight both the positives and negatives of a product, which helps me weigh the pros and cons more effectively.

Another benefit of reviews is that they can provide valuable insights into the experiences of people who might have different needs or preferences than me. For example, I’ll often seek out reviews from people with different body types or skin tones than me when considering clothing or makeup purchases. This not only helps me understand how the product might work for me, but also expands my awareness of different perspectives and experiences.

In addition to helping me make more informed purchasing decisions, leaving reviews has also given me a greater sense of community and engagement with the online shopping world. It feels good to provide helpful information to other potential customers, and I appreciate when others do the same for me. I also find that reading reviews can be an enjoyable and informative experience in and of itself, almost like reading mini product reviews from a team of everyday experts.

Of course, reviews aren’t a foolproof system – different people have different expectations and preferences, and some reviews may be biased or even fake. However, overall I’ve found that the benefits of using and leaving reviews far outweigh any potential drawbacks. 84 reviews might be a small sample size in the grand scheme of things, but each one has helped me make more informed, thoughtful, and satisfying purchasing decisions.
