As one of the most important figures in Christianity, Jesus has been heavily studied and scrutinized over the centuries. One aspect of Jesus that often gets overlooked is his humanity. It’s easy for many of us to see Jesus as divine and forget that he lived a human life just like us. However, the details of Jesus’ development in knowledge and physical growth speak to his humanity and provide insight into his character.
The King James version of the Bible provides an excellent resource for studying Jesus’ development. In Luke 2:40-52, we see Jesus’ growth from a child to a young man. In verse 40, we read that “the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him.” We can infer from this verse that Jesus grew in knowledge and wisdom as a child, just as any human child would.
In verses 41-50, we see Jesus as a young adult. When Jesus’ parents find him in the temple, he speaks with the teachers and astounds them with his understanding. This shows that Jesus continued to grow in knowledge and wisdom as he entered adulthood. It’s important to note that this knowledge didn’t come from a divine source but from his own learning and experience. This further emphasizes Jesus’ humanity and his need to learn and grow like any other person.
Another aspect of Jesus’ humanity that is often overlooked is his physical growth. In Luke 2:52, we read that “Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.” This verse shows that Jesus not only grew intellectually and emotionally but also physically. He experienced the same physical growth milestones that any human child would, such as getting taller and stronger.
Overall, Jesus’ development in knowledge and physical growth speaks to his humanity. It’s important to remember that even though Jesus was divine, he lived a human life and experienced the same struggles and growth that we all do. By understanding Jesus’ humanity, we can gain a deeper appreciation for his sacrifice and a more profound understanding of his message.
