These were computer programs that could solve problems within a specific domain by reasoning through a set of pre-established rules. The most famous example of an expert system was MYCIN, a system created to diagnose and treat infectious diseases.
In the 1990s and beyond, AI has expanded beyond rule-based systems and expert systems. Machine learning and deep learning have emerged, enabling systems to learn from data through experience instead of relying solely on pre-established rules.
