Genetic Changes that Drove Human Evolution

As humans evolved, several genetic changes contributed to their survival and proliferation.

One significant change was in the FOXP2 gene, responsible for language and speech development. This gene underwent a specific mutation around 200,000 years ago, contributing to our unique language capabilities.

Another change was in the MC1R gene, responsible for skin pigmentation. As humans migrated to regions with different levels of UV radiation, this gene’s mutations led to different skin colors, protecting them from harmful radiations.

Finally, the LCT gene responsible for lactose tolerance, allowed humans to digest milk during adulthood. This mutation enabled humans to consume milk as a nutritious food source, contributing to their survival.
