God’s Word is also a crucial source of wisdom. The Psalmist writes in Psalm 119:105, “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” Studying the Bible, praying, and seeking guidance from wise, godly individuals can all help us to discern God’s will and direction for our lives.
The Danger of False Teachings
Trusting in our own understanding can also leave us vulnerable to false teachings. The Bible warns us in 2 Timothy 4:3-4, “For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.”
False teachings can sound convincing and may even appeal to our own desires, but they lead us away from God’s truth and can have disastrous consequences. This is why it’s essential to test everything against the standard of God’s Word and seek out godly counsel when we are unsure.
