Breaking Down the Latest ITI Results:
A Look at the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship’s Impact

When it comes to job security, skilling employment and entrepreneurship are the key factors that help individuals and the country to progress. That’s why the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship’s (MSDE) mission of creating a “Skilled India” has been garnering attention.

Recently, the Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) conducted their annual All India Trade Test (AITT) under the National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT), a statutory body established by the government under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. In this article, we will break down the latest ITI results and assess the impact of the MSDE in creating a skilled workforce.

The Results in Numbers
The ITIs’ AITT exam results reflected a positive picture of the government’s efforts as the pass percentage for the year 2020-21 stood at 74.5%, which is 0.39% higher than the previous year. Additionally, there was an increase in the number of female candidates who appeared for the exam, indicating the success of the Skilling India initiative and the efforts towards women empowerment.

The Role of MSDE
The MSDE has been at the forefront of scaling up the skilling ecosystem in India. The government has launched several schemes like Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS), and Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY), among others.

Moreover, the MSDE has established Sector Skill Councils (SSCs) to identify industry-specific skill requirements, benchmark training standards, and certify certifications based on the National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF). This initiative has helped in reducing the skill gap, enhancing employability, and increasing the income of individuals.

In addition to this, with the COVID-19 pandemic, online skilling platforms and the launch of the ASK (Accelerating Schemes for Knowledge and Training) portal have further streamlined the MSDE’s initiatives towards skilling.

Impact on Employment and Entrepreneurship
The MSDE’s focus on skilling has not only impacted employment but has also led to the creation of entrepreneurs.

As per the data released by the government, over 17 lakh candidates were placed in different sectors, including manufacturing, hospitality, and construction, among others, through the PMKVY scheme. Additionally, under NAPS, over 12 lakh apprentices have been engaged in various industries, leading to on-the-job training and skill enhancement.

The MSDE’s initiatives have also led to the creation of self-employment opportunities. Through schemes like DDU-GKY, the ministry has trained and certified rural youth in different sectors, such as retail, hospitality, and beauty, leading to the creation of over 7 lakh entrepreneurs.

Conclusion
The MSDE’s mission of creating a skilled India has been yielding results, and the latest ITI results are a testimony to the government’s efforts towards skilling the country. Programs like PMKVY, NAPS, DDU-GKY, and SSCs have led to reducing the skill gap, enhancing employability, and increasing entrepreneurship, leading to a robust workforce in the country.

The government should continue to invest in vocational training and provide incentives to companies to train and hire from the skilling ecosystem. The industry should also partner with the government to bridge the skill gap in different sectors and provide opportunities for youth to upskill and gain industry exposure.

In conclusion, MSDE has been a game-changer in the skilling ecosystem and will continue to affect positive change going forward.
