Have you ever had your wisdom teeth extracted? If yes, then you will agree that the first week after the extraction is a time of pain, swollen cheeks, and inconvenience. As a first-timer, I was scared before the operation and had so many questions in my head. How bad will it hurt? Will it take long to heal? How long can I expect to be in pain and discomfort?

Well, it has been eight days since I had my wisdom teeth extracted, and I would like to share my experience with anyone who is scheduled to have the same procedure. Let me tell you, it was not as bad as I had anticipated, but it wasn’t a walk in the park either. Here is what I felt and what I learned:

Day 1 – The day of the surgery was the worst. My mouth was numb, and I couldn’t feel anything for a while. Once the numbness subsided, the pain came rushing in, and it was terrible. I had to take painkillers regularly and feed on soft foods.

Day 2 – The second day was not significant. The pain was still there, but it was manageable with painkillers. The most challenging part was having to sleep on my back with many pillows under my head.

Day 3 – The third day was a relief as the swelling was starting to go down, and the pain was subsiding too. I could open my mouth a little wider and started taking less pain medication.

Day 4 – By the fourth day, I was feeling much better. The swelling and pain had drastically reduced, and I felt confident enough to start eating some solid foods.

Days 5-8 – The pain and discomfort were entirely gone by the fifth day, and I could eat almost anything that I wanted. The stitches were starting to dissolve, and I was feeling my normal self again.

In conclusion, the recovery process after the wisdom teeth extraction is not as dreadful as it seems. The pain is manageable with the appropriate medication, and within a week, you will start feeling better. However, it is vital to follow the post-surgery instructions provided by the dentist to avoid complications. Make sure to take enough rest, avoid straining yourself, and stick to soft foods for a few days. Remember, the healing process is gradual and different for everyone, so don’t rush it. Allow your body time to heal, and you will feel like yourself again in no time.
