How the Bible Teaches Us About Wisdom in the Church

Wisdom is an essential quality that any successful organization should possess. The church is not an exception to this notion. In fact, the Bible teaches us a lot about wisdom in the church, and we can draw insights from it.

Here are some ways the Bible teaches us about wisdom in the church:

1. Wise leadership

Proverbs 11:14 says, “Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors, there is safety.” The church needs wise leaders who can guide and counsel the congregation. These leaders should be able to make decisions based on discernment and wisdom.

2. Discernment

The Bible encourages us to have discernment, and it’s an essential trait for any church. In 1 John 4:1, it says, “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.” Discernment means being able to distinguish between truth and falsehood and acting accordingly.

3. Humility

Proverbs 11:2 says, “When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with the humble is wisdom.” The church should strive to be humble and not let pride get in the way of accomplishing its mission. Humility allows for open-mindedness and a willingness to learn and grow.

4. Accountability

Accountability is a crucial aspect of the church. In Matthew 18:15-17, Jesus lays out a process for resolving conflicts between believers. It involves going to the person privately, then bringing witnesses, and ultimately involving the entire church. This process ensures that everyone is held accountable and that conflicts are resolved in a godly manner.

5. Forgiveness

In Matthew 18:21-22, Peter asks Jesus how many times he should forgive his brother, and Jesus replies, “I do not say to you seven times, but seventy-seven times.” Forgiveness is an act of wisdom, and the church should strive to practice it regularly.

In conclusion, the Bible provides us with many insights into how to be wise in the church. By having wise leaders, discernment, humility, accountability, and forgiveness, the church can be successful in fulfilling its mission. Let’s strive to apply these teachings to our own churches and be wise in all that we do.
