Global Goal 8 is an important aspect of the Sustainable Development Goals developed by the United Nations to create a better and more sustainable future. Goal 8 focuses on promoting sustained and inclusive economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all. Its contribution towards poverty eradication, enhancing gender equality, and reducing economic inequality are some of the characteristics that make it an essential goal.

Providing employment opportunities is key to achieving this goal. With decent work opportunities, people can break out of the cycle of poverty, support their families, and minimize the gender pay gap. However, not everyone has access to decent work opportunities, which makes the goal of providing employment opportunities at a fair wage even more important.

The goal of bettering unemployment is not only for individuals and their families, but also for nations. With greater employment opportunities, individual countries can achieve economic growth, which leads to higher standards of living and more economic equality. By having a job and being able to provide for themselves and their family, people can increase their quality of life, reducing dependence on social welfare programs.

In recent years, the world has made significant progress in achieving Goal 8. According to the ILO, unemployment rates around the world dropped from 5.6% in 2016 to 5.5% in 2019. Also, advancements in technology have helped increase productivity and created new jobs in various sectors.

However, there is still a long way to go, with reports estimating that roughly 700 million people are living in extreme poverty. Despite the progress, there remain light in the implementation of social protections, weak labor rights, and poor working conditions that impede the success of sustainable economic growth.

To achieve Goal 8, it will require increased investment by both the public and private sectors. To promote fair and decent jobs, transparency is significant, especially in viewing social welfare programs, and understanding where this funding comes from leading ethical economic growth.

In conclusion, achieving Goal 8 is essential to building a better future. It encourages economic growth, employment opportunities, and the elimination of poverty, all while promoting ethical business practices. With increased investment and the promotion of fair and decent jobs, we can continue to make progress toward creating a world where all individuals have full and productive employment opportunities.
