In the age of technology, almost every aspect of our lives is quite different from what they used to be. Communication, in particular, has now become faster and effortless, thanks to devices and applications that aid in connecting us to other people, regardless of physical distance. While some people doubt if this brings positive change, there are numerous possibilities that this aspect of technological advancement can provide.

On the one hand, it can be argued that the introduction of technology has oiled the heels of socialization and communication. The emergence of social media has provided an avenue for people to get to know each other better regardless of geographical barriers. Video chats and messaging application can also facilitate closer contact between people, making it possible to build strong connections even without being physically present in the same location. Technology has also provided a means for people to learn about different cultures and ways of life beyond their regular scope, therefore, increasing understanding and promoting meaningful relationships.

However, there are some who argue that technology isn’t helpful in building strong connections and that digital communication isn’t as effective or authentic as face-to-face interactions. The obvious lack of direct, nonverbal cues or body language in digital interactions can sometimes result in messages being misunderstood or misconstrued, and feelings of isolation can also arise due to a lack of personal touch. The process of getting to know someone on a deeper level can sometimes be hindered when you lack in-person interaction.

Overall, it’s clear that technology has both positive and negative impacts on the building of strong connections between people. While virtual communication may have some limitations, the ability to connect with people from different cultures and backgrounds promotes understanding and empathy. At the same time, though, we need to balance our reliance on digital connection with our need for face-to-face communication in order to build lasting and meaningful relationships. The bottom line is that technology, like any other tool, can be used to bring people together or drive them apart – the choice is entirely up to us.
