NMMS or National Means cum Merit Scholarship is an initiative of the Government of India to provide financial assistance to meritorious students from economically weaker backgrounds. The scholarship scheme is currently available for students studying in class VIII and will continue till class XII, subject to certain conditions.

Here are five things that you need to know about NMMS scholarship:

1) Eligibility criteria: To be eligible for NMMS scholarship, a student needs to be studying in class VIII in a recognized school, and the annual income of the family should not exceed Rs. 1.5 lakh from all sources. The student also needs to have secured 55% or more marks in the previous class’s examination.

2) Selection procedure: The selection process for NMMS scholarship includes a written examination and an interview. The written examination consists of two parts- Mental Ability Test (MAT) and Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT). The MAT paper tests the student’s logical reasoning and analytical skills, while the SAT paper includes questions from mathematics, science, and social studies. The students who qualify in the written round are further interviewed, and the final selection is based on the combined marks of the written examination and the interview.

3) Scholarship amount: The selected students will receive a scholarship amount of Rs. 12000 per annum for completing their secondary education- class IX to XII. The amount is paid in installments of Rs. 1000 per month.

4) Renewal criteria: To continue receiving the scholarship for the next academic year, the student needs to maintain a minimum of 55% or equivalent grade in class IX and class X. Also, the student must not be involved in any disciplinary action during this period.

5) Application process: The application procedure for NMMS scholarship varies across states and union territories. The applications are generally invited in the month of September or October, and the written examination is held in November or December. Students can obtain the application form from their respective school authorities or visit the official website of the respective state education board.
