For many students, the cost of tuition and living expenses can be overwhelming, forcing them to consider taking out loans or working multiple part-time jobs to pay for college. However, there are lesser-known scholarships available to help lighten the financial burden. Here are five scholarships that you don’t want to miss out on:

1. Vegetarian Resource Group Scholarship: This scholarship awards $10,000 to graduating high school seniors who have promoted vegetarianism in their communities. Students are required to submit an essay on the benefits of a vegetarian diet and provide references as well as transcripts.

2. American Fire Sprinkler Association Scholarship: High school seniors who read an article about fire sprinklers and take a ten-question multiple-choice quiz are entered for a chance to win a $2,000 scholarship. Winners are chosen at random and can re-enter every year.

3. The Gen and Kelly Tanabe Scholarship: This scholarship was founded by two brothers who were able to pay for their own college education through scholarships. They now award $1,000 to a student who writes a 250-word essay on a specific topic every month.

4. NACE Foundation Scholarship: The National Association of Corrosion Engineers awards several scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $10,000 for students interested in studying science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM). Applicants must submit transcripts, essays, and letters of recommendation.

5. National Institute for Labor Relations Research Scholarship: This scholarship was founded to promote research and foster increased understanding of the rights of workers. They award $1,000 to $5,000 to students who submit essays on topics related to labor policy.

As you can see, there are many opportunities that college students can take advantage of to help with the financial burden of attending college. These scholarships are just a few examples of the many lesser-known ones that are available. By researching and applying to these scholarships, you may be able to reduce your student loan debt and focus on your education without worrying about financial constraints.
