Dr Murali Manohar Joshi (1998-2004)
Dr Murali Manohar Joshi was a well-known educationist and politician. During his tenure as the Minister of Human Resource Development, he initiated several reforms in the education sector. He introduced the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyaan – a flagship programme for universal elementary education. He also introduced the revised National Curriculum Framework (NCF) which aimed to provide a learner-centric, experiential and holistic education. Prakash Javadekar (2016-2019)
Prakash Javadekar, the former Minister of Human Resource Development, introduced several significant reforms in the education sector. During his tenure, he launched the ‘Swachh Vidyalaya Abhiyaan’ to promote cleanliness and hygiene in schools. He also introduced the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) to provide a ranking for higher educational institutions in India based on objective criteria.
